Volunteerism – A way to support others … AND yourself! PART ONE
May 12, 2010Got a Great Idea?
May 17, 2010As I said earlier this week, making volunteering a part of your long-term life strategy is SO important to successful business leaders. This week, I’m actually serving His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. That’s meant small things – like cleaning the temple and serving whomever was around me.
For you guys, I want to share two more tips to help you integrate a service component into your lifestyle. I’d love to hear YOUR feedback and examples of what volunteerism means in your life and business.
1. Give Where You’re Gifted: You have time, talent, and treasure. Figure out which one feels right to give. Are you an expert in public relations, and could donate an hour a week helping a non-profit with PR? That’s donating time and talent. Would you rather write a check? That’s donating treasure.
2. Finally, get Others Involved. I like to match the donations given by staff members up to a specific amount. This is fun, gets the team involved in giving, and boosts morale. You can also get your team together to cook or serve a meal at a homeless shelter or repair a senior citizen’s home. The possibilities are unlimited and your team’s morale and staff retention will soar.
This week, make a point to do all 5 of these tips I’ve posted and watch what happens. I guarantee you’ll experience a level of personal satisfaction that’s unmatched anywhere.
You’ll likely also make some terrific business contacts!
