I spent a lot of time over the last few months mentoring a corporate client to get out of their own way and STOP making the same mistake over and over.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way. And what’s worse, like my client, they had a way of  repeating themselves over and over.  Unlike my client, I didn’t start out with a great mentor to help me navigate a path to success.  Because until you change your patterns and consciously stop repeating them, mistakes will stop your progress EVERY time.

The gift of working with a mentor? The secret is that you gain an objective viewpoint in order to learn from your mistakes — so you can recognize and avoid them in the future.

The new client’s error?  They have been hooking up with the wrong business partners.  This is one I TOTALLY understand.  At the start of my successful journey, I repeatedly hired partners – simply out of fear that I couldn’t build a company alone. I felt I had to have a partner, when I could’ve simply hired staff to fill the gaps in my knowledge or experience. After a while, I learned to overcome this fear by trusting my instincts. The instincts told me I could build and launch the company on my own, or with my staff.

In my client’s case, finding and working with a killer consultant will probably move them much further than opening the doors to the kingdom, if you get my drift.  They have worked SUPER hard to build their company up to 7 figures, and holding onto that gain is exactly the right choice for right now.  THAT is what a mentor brings, the wisdom to make the right choice, for the right reasons, right now.
